Sign the Petition: America Wants to Work
Not only is the debt ceiling deal that was reached devastating to working families, but it makes it more likely Congress will spend another four months focused on budget-cutting instead of on jobs and investment in the future.read...

Following House passage of the Colombia Free Trade Agreement on Wednesday night, CWA expressed deep disappointment that Congress choose to ignore the country's gross abuses of workers' rights and the deadly violence against people who fight for unionization, read...

Protecting collecting bargaining rights key to economic growth by Larry Cohen

This Labor Day, America's working families are in an economic free fall, stuck in a "dollar store" economy.
Economists and analysts tell us that increased demand and consumerism will turn things around. Pretty hollow words for workers who haven't seen a real wage increase in decades, whose employers cut jobs and benefits just because they can and who can't find enough work to sustain a middle-class standard of living. ..more

Deceptive Ballot
There's a deceptive ballot initiative petition being circulated at grocery stores, malls, post offices and other places near you that's designed to silence the voices of working people.
Petition gatherers say it's about "special interests" but DON'T BE FOOLED! Read California Labor Federation flyer

FIGHT FOR A FAIR ECONOMY!
"WE ARE ONE" MARCH AND RALLYMembers cwa9412 in july mobilization
FRIDAY JULY 22,
Oakland City Hall
With the down economy, the anti-worker attacks happening across the country, and next year's 2012 presidential election, it is critical for Labor to unite, build power, and fight back. Workers are under the most pressure we have seen in a generation whether we are public or private sector, union or non-union.

The Alameda Labor Council and Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA) will march in solidarity through the streets of Oakland for good jobs, Wall Street accountability, and a labor community united for justice, health care, and fair immigration policies. Join over 1,000 union and community activists to bring heat to the street!

SAVE KPFA

CWA members and outraged listeners are fighting to save union jobs and restore a popular morning show at America's first listener-sponsored radio station, KPFA-FM in Berkeley, Calif.
This week, the station's parent company, Pacifica Foundation, fired three morning show hosts/producers, yanked the show off the air and is piping in programming from its Los Angeles station. Pacifica owns five radio stations across the country.

Health Reimbursement Account

Current non-Medicare eligible retirees with retirement dates on or after 3/1/1990 and before 4/5/2009 are eligible to participate, effective January 1, 2010, in the company provided Healthcare Reimbursement Account (HRA) if they also elect to participate in the Company Medical Plan (not an HMO).

Inside Recent Phone Outages

In fact a document NBCLA obtained from the California Public Utilities Commission, shows that AT&T cut its total landline workforce 61%, from 1991 to 2008.
Says an AT&T technician, "You can't go out and be honest with the customer and say, 'the reason you waited 25 days or two weeks or 14 days, is because the company doesn't have enough personnel."
AT&T explains the workforce numbers a different way. Britton says, "I actually have more technicians now than I did in 2005. "
NBCLA asked him if all those technicians were servicing landlines, and Britton replied, "They're servicing television too."

Lack of Paid Sick Leave Is Family and Public Health Concern

by Mike Hall, AFL-CIO:More than 44 million private-sector workers in the United States— 42 percent of the private-sector workforce —don't have paid sick days they can use to recover from a common illness like the flu, according to new research by the Institute for Women's Policy Research (IWPR).
